Saviskara, a two day student exhibition and design forum was organized by the students and staff of Raffles Design Institute, Colombo at the JDA Perera Gallery. This was a first for the design school to have an external 2 day exhibition and the design forum was also the first of it’s kind in Sri Lanka, making history.
The Exhibition featured the graduating students’ work from Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design and Fashion Marketing.
The Design Forum featured an unparalleled group of top industry speakers who spoke on 20 topics ranging from Advertising, Art, Fashion, Interior Design, Marketing through to Architecture, Multimedia, Web Design and so much more…
From day one of joining Raffles, I initiated the idea to hold an external exhibition where students can showcase their work to the design industry and public. This was a much needed break away from the quarterly lobby single evening exhibitions for each department; as they did not unify the creative talent and energy of the school as one, nor did they attract the design industry’s attention.
The idea moved beyond where the exhibition had a title and took a back seat at the annual Graduation and Fashion show. I envisioned a standalone brand identity to promote the Exhibition, Graduation and Fashion show all under one theme, to be continued annually. In Sanskrit “Saviskara – an exhibition of talent” branded by the students resulted in an overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the all the students, staff and Design Industry. A successful Saviskara 2015 continued its journey into 2017.
